According to the information that I have, our next target test will be on Monday, November 3, 2008.
This is an execllent opportunity for several reasons.
- Summative assessment is the best way for your teachers to get an idea of what is working and what is not. Contrary to popular belief, the target test is more for teachers than it is for students. It is a way for US to judge ourselves on how and what we are teaching and if it is working. However, if students do not try their VERY BEST, it is not a very good indicator of our effectiveness. So, please, for Pete’s sake, try your hardest.
- It is a chance for you to get out of remediation. Mr. Rolland announced at a faculty meeting last month that students who score proficient on the Target Test, they would be excused from remediation. The opposite is also true, however, if you do not score you will remain in remediation/will be placed in remediation. So, please, for Pete’s sake, try your hardest.
- It helps you prepare for the “Main Event” in the spring! The ACTAAP is the most important test you will take this year. It judges what you “learned” this year. I know that you are learning because I have you in class on a daily bais. However, we have to prove it to others. SO…., please, for Pete’s sake, try your hardest.
We have a meeting later this week and I’ll update you on what I know after then…
Also, if anyone knows who Pete is, please, for Pete’s sake, let me know!

Hi Bryan,
I am a fellow math teacher and I have been searching long and hard for some math blogs that are being used in the classroom. I think this post if really great. We also give these summative assessments at the end of each marking period and they are so painful for the students. I try to encourage them to do their best but they all just kind of tune out when we try to lecture on doing their best. I think putting it in writing is a great idea because students will see you put some effort into posting this for them and their parents.
Your blog is really great in informing students in upcoming events and I really like your calendars on the right side. Have you thought about posting math content and having students reply? What are your thought about students blogging on math?
Thanks for the great info
Jess
